Mixed Reality Presentation Live on Stage

A couple weeks ago we successfully delivered our first live Mixed Reality presentation. Check out the video to see how it looked like.

We were invited to give this talk by Gunadarma University in Indonesia. The audience were IT undergrads, lecturers and faculty heads.

The presentation was about Industry 4.0 – what’s the history, where we are now and how it will be in the foreseeable future.

To aid in visualizing the concept of industrial revolution, we originally thought of using plain-old powerpoint slides. However, it will be such a shame if we deliver it in the same way many people do in other similar talks.

Hololens 2 in a Glance – 5 Reasons to be Excited About

A few days ago, Microsoft unveiled the second generation of its flagship Mixed Reality headset. Dubbed simply as Hololens 2, this device was undoubtedly stealing all the thunders in MWC which was held in Barcelona this year.

So what’s amazing about Hololens 2?

Almost every part of it. Seriously, the $480M deal with US Army last year should be an indication that Hololens 2 is gonna be huge.

Whether you actually have a list or not, the one thing for sure is that we all have a certain hope for each new year. Here at App Igniter, we’re more excited than ever to welcome the 2019 in metaverse.

What’s in store in the XR industry this year is anyone’s guess, but we can be certain that this year is gonna be bigger than the last. So where should we put our focus on?

App Igniter is Gaining Influence in Indonesia

Since its inception in 2011, App Igniter has been focusing on Singapore market. But recently we have been getting a lot of enquiries from our neighboring country, Indonesia.

Starting 2018 we have started getting projects from Indonesia and many companies there are starting to hear about us.

However, what we are truly grateful for was the opportunity to kickstart the Mixed Reality movement in Indonesia. Together with a few MR enthusiasts, we formed a core group to spread this technology to the masses in Jakarta. This resulted in the forming of Mixed Reality Community Indonesia. And last October I was invited to be one of the speakers for its first meetup.

The thing I love about programming is because it’s fun to see how things work out the way you design it to be. Actually, it’s funnier sometimes when things don’t go according to your design.

It goes doubly so for 3D content development.

However, there are usually more headaches in development when you start considering the hardware you want to deploy to.

Coming from mobile app development, I know first hand how hard it is just synchronizing between Android and iOS.

Now this hold true by a magnitude in the XR ecosystem. Every few months there is a new headset coming. Each with their own set of SDK written in many different programming languages.

AR, VR, MR, XR, RR… Which is Which?

The pace of technological growth in the “R” industry is astounding. Unsurprisingly, an increase in glossary of related terms comes with the territory.

It’s not a shame, really, to mixed up some of those terms. It has become too common a scenario when clients approached me to inquire about AR service while they really meant VR and vice versa.

Hence after a while I made this educational info as one of the first slides in my pitch deck.

Let’s define them.

Case Study: AR in Education – A Collaboration with SUTD

There’s a wave of immersive experience hitting the education sector. And it’s just a matter of time before Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD) is interested to pilot an experimental program using XR.

A Senior lecturer in Information System faculty is leading this bold experiment for one of his programming subjects – Introduction to Python. Initially they’re using physical 2-wheeled robots to foster the learning experience.

Then they came up to us with the idea of replacing a physical robot with the virtual one in AR or VR.
